It’s no secret that Cesar Milan has struck a chord by connecting the personality of the owner with that of the dog. There is no comparing child raising to animal training except in this one, critical area. If you are stressed out, chances are, your child is too. There are some simple steps that you as the parent can take now, to calm the stresses of your everyday life. Stop. Look around you. Take a moment to really look at the environment, the corners, the kitchen… take a moment to look at your self. Breathe. In this moment, calm yourself and put things into perspective. Life is busy, sure. Bills are overwhelming, and guests are coming at a time that could not be less convenient. But you’re okay. And now you need to make sure that your child is not picking up on the stress of your day to day living. Choose a time to sit down with your children. A designated time to sit, talk and let them know where you stand. Do you need to admit to being a little stressed out? Then do that. Tell your children that just because you are struggling to keep up with things, that they do not need to worry. And maybe tell them, that you could use a little help with things. When children are told by an adult that things are a little crazy, they start to understand better. The simple act of letting your child know that you recognize that things have gotten a little out of control, will let them know that you love them. During the time that you are speaking to your child or children, ask them if there is anything at home that makes them nervous or anxious. Is it morning? When everyone is running and trying to get to school on time? Ask them how they think it can be fixed. Perhaps everyone in the household can go to bed fifteen minutes earlier, and rise fifteen minutes earlier, in turn. Tell your child that there should be Smiles in the Morning. That morning is the time for smiles, and watch them begin to look forward to these precious few minutes in the morning before the day becomes overwhelming. A few minutes of calm conversation with your child or children can minimize mounting stress in the home. And if your child is exhibiting a “stressful” nature, make sure to look carefully at your own behaviors before beginning the conversation. As the world gets busier and faster, managing stress will become
something that every family must attend to regularly. Take a moment
to breathe for yourself. Tell your child you love them. And begin
to walk a little more slowly to the car or the bus stop. Begin by
slowing down. And ask your child to do the same. [ Return to infomation center ] Related topics:Childrens
